Nissan’s Selfie Friendly Vehicle

Say cheese! Soon you won’t need a smart phone to take a selfie with your vehicle.  Nissan has recently unveiled “Teatro for Dayz”, the first selfie-friendly vehicle.  Free of knobs and buttons, this car was designed to appeal to a younger generation.

Nissan claimed that kids reaching the driving age now have different attitudes about cars and driving.  The idea of owning, maintaining, and insuring a vehicle are now more of an option, rather than a need, especially with the convenience of public transportation or ride sharing systems like Uber.  Nissan is now attempting to involve the love of mobile technology to get this younger generation more interested in purchasing and owning a vehicle.

Social media and automobiles are becoming increasingly intermingled.

This “iPad” like vehicle will features an instrument panel, seats, and door trim that function as displays along with LED screens on the cars exterior. The interior also contains a built-in camera to snap selfies of the driver or passengers.  The LED screens can display pictures from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or whatever social media apps have been downloaded to the vehicle.  Voice control and motion sensors can also operate the air conditioning and audio systems.

“The interior can be visually altered according to one’s mood, for playing games, and in the blink of an eye to surprise friends. What Teatro for Dayz is, how it’s used, and what it could become are all up to the share native’s imagination,” said Nissan executive design director Satoshi Tai.

Social media and instant connectivity are an increasing part of our modern culture.

While this vehicle is still only a concept, and is currently not for sale, Nissan is proving to the car industry that sometimes you have to think outside the box to attract younger consumers.
